Polina Barskova was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where she published her first books of poetry. In 1998 she moved to the United States to work on her dissertation at University of California, Berkeley: her scholarly research there was dedicated to culture of her native city, and later led to multiple scholarly publications on the life of arts during the Siege of Leningrad (1941-44). Barskova is an author of 10 books of poetry in Russian and 3 books of poetry in English translation. In 2015 she won the Andrey Bely Prize for her prose. Barskova teaches literature at Hampshire College.
