Chiyoko Szlavnics is a composer and visual artist living in Berlin. Her two artistic disciplines both inspire, and inform each other – drawings have often served as the basis for compositions, and aspects of sound have influenced several of her drawings series.

Chiyoko Szlavnics grew up in Toronto, graduated from the University of Toronto in 1989, and studied composition with James Tenney from 1993-1997. She received a Fellowship Grant from the Akademie Schloss Solitude in 1997. Szlavnics' music has been performed by a wide variety of chamber ensembles, orchestras, and freelance musicians, and has been featured at various festivals in Europe and North America, as well as in radio broadcasts and publications. Her drawings have appeared in numerous exhibitions both in Europe and Canada, most notably at Fruesorge Contemporary Drawings (Berlin) and the Centre For Recent Drawing (London) in 2012. The portrait CD, "Gradients of Detail" was released on the World Edition label in 2013, and a new CD is currently in production for release in early 2017 by Another Timbre.
